What Is It?

Teeth whitening works to remove visible stains that have been caused by food, smoking, coffee, tea, or other environmental factors. It’s important to note that the inside of your teeth won’t change color.

Most of our patients experience excellent results from teeth whitening. There are, however, some patients who don’t notice changes quite as significant.

How We Whiten Your Teeth

We will first thoroughly examine your teeth to ensure that teeth whitening is right for you. We recommend that all of our patients have a complete check-up and teeth cleaning before treatment. This allows us to remove any build-up of plaque that could potentially diminish the effectiveness of the teeth whitening procedure.

If any cavities are discovered during your initial examination, we strongly advise you to have them filled before whitening, as this will prevent sensitivity in your teeth.

What to Expect

Some patients feel tingling in their gums following treatment. However, this is very brief and lasts only a few minutes.

Only your tooth enamel will whiten from treatment, so if you have existing fillings in your teeth, they will stay the same color.

It’s best to avoid consuming foods or drinks following treatment that could potentially re-stain your teeth. Most patients can resume their usual diet in as little as 1 to 3 days.
